Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered By the Holy Spirit

we commit ourselves:  to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,

to support the mission of church worldwide,

to work for justice and peace, and to build inclusive, caring community of women

that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA)

and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

Welcome to Cherokee Presbytery’s PW Website!
The Cherokee Presbytery PW Coordinating Team stands ready to support and assist our local churches in any way possible. Every church - from the smallest to the largest - has its own unique flavor of PW yet we are united through common study, service, fellowship and nurture. The tie that binds us is our love of God and our fellow sisters in Christ. It is our goal to keep you abreast of Synod, Presbytery, and local church PW news so that we all may feel connected to the larger Church as Presbyterian Women. Please feel free to contact any PWCT team member with joys, concerns, and suggestions as together we delight in serving the Lord. Our PWCT meetings will be held at the Presbytery Office in Cartersville at 9:30 AM on these designated dates: July 19, 2008 and September 20, 2008.
May your time shared as PW be a blessing to you and yours!
Yours in Christ,
Barbara Elliott,
Cherokee Presbytery PW Moderator

Each part of this tree costing $1 offers multi-vitamins and minerals to people suffering from malnutrition and saves lives!

PW $$ MATTERS
Our Cherokee Presbytery PW Treasurer, Harriette Majoros, requests that all financial matters be directed to her home address at: 3450 Brookhill Circle, Marietta, GA 30062.

PW MISSION
Thanks to Rockmart Presbyterian Church for their mission work in collecting 5 boxes of sheets, baby layette items and baby kits. These items will sent to Church World Services (CWS) in New Windsor, Maryland where they will be distributed by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA). In this time when so many tragedies are affecting millions of people, we thank Rockmart Presbyterian Church for their personal care.

CHURCH WORLD SERVICE DELIVERY
Dee Allison, a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, is driving to Maryland in July and has offered to take any CWS mission items which we have collected. If you as an individual or your church wishes to assemble school kits, health kits, or baby kits, please consider doing so by July 1 so that Dee can also take your items free of charge. Thank you, Dee, for your generous offer. Contact Jan Boehm, Cherokee Mission Coordinator, at 770-431-6880, or Barbara Elliott, Cherokee Moderator, 706-506-2499 if you have items you wish to donate.

CHEROKEE PW MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Jan Boehm, Cherokee PW Mission Coordinator, recently highlighted five PW projects which Cherokee Presbytery PWCT would encourage our local churches to consider:

1) Gift of the Heart PDA Kits – School kits, health kits, Hope in a Box, Baby kit and Clean up kit. Brochures are available describing each kit. School Kits are urgently needed at this time. School kit includes: 6 pencils, 1 sharpener, 1 big eraser, 12"ruler, box of 24 crayons, blunt scissors, pkg of 150 sheet notebook paper, and 12 sheets of colored construction paper. ONGOING request.
2) Sheets, Sheets, Sheets – any size, any color, new or used in good condition.
These are sorely needed by the local mission hospitals in Africa. ONGOING request.
3) NetWorkers Mosquito Nets - Malaria is the #1 killer in Africa. A $10 donation buys an insecticide treated mosquito net for a new mother and child in Africa. The donation can be made in honor or in memory of a special person and a card is provided to send to the friend noting the donation. This is a joint project between PW and International Health Ministries. ONGOING request.
4) Moringa Tree - This is a PC(USA) and Medical Benevolence program in the Congo to fight malnutrition. The tree has ‘miracle’ leaves, flowers, pods, seed and roots which are ground into powder and used as a nutritional supplement to boost traditional Congolese dishes with amazing results. Malnutrition rates are drastically reduced. Cost of tree is $1 and it’s ready to harvest in 9 months. ONGOING request.
5) Palm Project – Our newest PW Woman to Woman project offers the Congolese people a new improved variety of palm tree from Costa Rica. Palm oil is a valuable substance taken from palm trees for important nutritional and economic purposes. It is in high demand as an export and offers much needed revenue for the people. It is low growing so women and children can harvest it easily. This new variety of tree produces three times the amount of oil as former trees and a harvest from grove of trees can support an entire village. A $20 donation buys 10 trees. NEW request.

All Gifts to these projects can be directed through CPPW Treasurer, Harriette Majoros, 3450 Brookhill, Marietta, GA 30062. Please make checks out to CPPW.

SYNOD LEADERS from CHEROKEE PRESBYTERY
Sue Spivey (Summerville) was installed as Vice Moderator of the Synod PW at the gathering at Epworth. Erma Jones (John Knox) is finishing up her term as Nominations Chair. Eva Whitaker (Covenant) is finishing up her term as Treasurer. Rev. Julia Wiley, Woodstock PC Minister, led the service of Installation.
Our deepest sympathy goes to SUE SPIVEY in the loss of her beloved husband, DR. HERMAN SPIVEY on June 9th . He was a physician for 47 years, an Elder and Sunday School teacher at Summerville Presbyterian Church, and a devoted family man and servant to the Church and community.
Please keep ERMA JONES in your prayers as she serves Cherokee Presbytery as a voting delegate to the General Assembly June 21-28.

RISING COST OF LIFETIME MEMBER PINS

A gold pin has been introduced and it is now available for $295. Please consider submitting your request to honor an outstanding PW. The monies received for Lifetime Membership go to fund PW educational events.
